- Studio program grew from one campus pilot to three campus implementation.

- East and West campuses began in classroom spaces with East transitioning to maker space mid-year.

- NuVuX studio teachers grew from three teachers to six teachers.

- NuVuX Expert co-teaching strategy of 3-6 session per week with studio teachers.

- Studio program to begin on all three campuses as a significant element of student schedules.

- All campuses will begin the year with a fully-built maker space equipped with new Apple computers and identical tools.

- Each campus will begin the year with two assigned NuVuX teachers.

- Year will begin with NuVu Expert co-teaching with the strategy of increasing teacher independence throughout the year. Ending the year with independently taught studios by NBHS teachers.

؜- Increased importance places on reading, speaking, and productive socialization of students in the studio spaces through articles, discussions, and debates.

- Testing of a physical portfolio of artifacts (students journals) as a method of collection and assessing student work

- Introduction of "Experiences" as a supplementary format of curriculum. Experiences are stand-alone activities which teachers can facilitate without the need of the continuity of a multi-week studio

- Integration of aquaculture systems, robotics arms, VR headsets, 3D printers

Why a shift to Experiences?

Reducing Abstraction

Multi-week topical studios rely on abstraction. Abstraction is not received well by NBHS students. NBHS students want opportunities to challenge themselves with concrete outcomes and direct relevancy.

Accommodating New Attendees

Serving a student body whose attendance in less consistent and does not benefit from studio continuity.

Ease of Access

The multi-week topical studios have proven in past years to place knowledge ownership, and therefore facilitation responsibility, on the NuVuX Program Coordinator. Experiences should remove that gate-keeping nature of studios to allow for teachers to use the curriculum more easily. A "non-studio-teacher" should easily be able to facilitate an Experience.

By tracking which students have participated in which Experiences, we can construct a comprehensive educational journey.

If a NBHS student participated in one experience per week throughout the year, there would be forty opportunities for studio Experiences.

؜NBHS Student attendance doesn't lend itself well to the continuous studio model

The ideal professional development scenario would be all studio teachers gathering together on one campus to participate in each Experience fully for one hour before facilitating it themselves.

I believe once Experience per week would serve our students and teachers better than multiple Experiences running each week.

The past two years has proven that multiple studios topics running at the same time has not increased quanitity of reach, but it has decreased quality of experiences by spreading us thinner
